EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK 2006

JOHN EDWARDS EVEREST BASE CAMP TREK 2006

For as long as I can remember I have had an ambition to trek to The Everest Base Camp in Nepal. It is some thing that needs a great deal of thought and organisation, but most of all finding the right time in ones life to actually do the trek. Over the years several times I started to get things started, but is was not until January 2005 the dream actually started to become a reality.
It was while visiting a holiday adventure show at Olympia, London, I came across a small trekking specialist company run by Simon Booth and Tracy Pfeffer, they gave me some great advice, also there prices were very reasonable. I came away with their brochure and an air of expectancy.
The trek I wanted to do was in their brochure, so during the next two months I contacted a friend who also wanted to do the trek, so by the end of March we had booked the flights to Nepal and the trek. It was an 18 day event with 14 days trekking to Kalar Patar, a 18,200ft mountain overlooking The Everest Base Camp. Most treks go to Kalar Patar as the views of the Himalaya and Everest are magnificent, whereas from the actual base camp there is no view of Everest. So we now had about 11 months to prepare and get fit for our forthcoming adventure.
