WHITE COLNE
WHITE COLNE
A small Essex Village in the beautiful Colne Valley
Over the next few months we will be portraying a text and more important a photographic history of White Colne. My search for photographs and memories of White Colne have only just begun, but in this short time I have been loaned some some amazing material, one such photograph is below.
If any visitors to these pages have any photographs or information and would be prepared to loan them to me, I would be most grateful. You can contact me
WHITE COLNE - HISTORY OF VILLAGE
The ancient parish of White Colne, the smallest of the four colnes is about four miles in circumference (1466 acres or 593 hectares) lies on the north bank of the River Colne, 12 miles west of Colchester and 4 miles east of Halstead. White Colne took its name from its Domesday tenant Miblanc. It was bounded on the south by the River Colne, on the east by a small tributary sometimes called the Readin Brook, on the north by the Cambridge brook, and on the west by field boundries.
